Imphal: Kuki insurgents were killed in Manipur. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jiribam district carried out the attack on Monday. The encounter took place when the CRPF and Assam Rifles forces, which were immediately alerted, engaged in counter-fire. 11 Kuki militants were killed in this encounter. A CRPF jawan was injured and rushed to the hospital.
Over 200 people have lost their lives and thousands have been left homeless in the ethnic conflict that has been going on since May last year between the Meithis of Imphal Valley and the Kukis who live in the hilly areas of Manipur.

Meanwhile, on Monday morning, militants opened fire on a farmer working in the fields in the Imphal East district of Manipur from a nearby hilltop position. The farmer was injured in the firing. Security forces immediately reached the spot and retaliated. The firing continued for a while on both sides. The injured farmer was shifted to the nearby PHC. He is now out of danger.
This is the third day in a row that militants have been firing on farmers from hilly areas. Last Saturday, a woman was killed when militants opened fire from the hilly areas of Churachandpur district while she was doing farm work in Bishnupur district. On Sunday too, similar attacks took place in Sanasabi, Sabunkok Khunau and Thannapokpi in Imphal East district.
