A tragic incident took place on Tuesday in Phulrai village of Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh where devotees who came to collect the dust of Bho Le Baba’s feet got mixed up in the soil. A stampede ensued as people flocked to have a darshan of Bhole Baba, who is famous in the region, and tried to collect the mud from around his feet. 116 people died in this incident. Hundreds were injured. Among the deceased were 108 women and seven children. The death toll is expected to rise further. The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into the incident. President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed deep shock.
Falling on each other..
Bhole Baba has been conducting the Satsang program for the past few days. As Tuesday was the last day, devotees came in large numbers to visit him and collect the mud from his feet. On this occasion, there was a stampede and many people fell on top of each other and died. 23 dead bodies were shifted to Eta District Hospital. The rest of the bodies and the injured were taken to Sikandra Rao Trauma Care Center in Hathrus in ambulances, cars, trucks and tempos. As the dead bodies were placed in the hospital premises, the wails of the relatives could be heard. The sight of a tearful woman with five or six dead bodies in the truck was heartbreaking.
While going home..
Shakuntala Devi, an eyewitness, said that the stampede took place at around 3.30 pm when all the devotees were going home after satsang. Sikandra Rao Police Station Officer Ashish said that the stampede took place due to the huge crowd of devotees. The police registered an FIR against the organizers of the satsang. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
It was all over within an hour and a half
Bhole Baba spent an hour and a half in this program. Later, when he left, there was a stampede as devotees jumped up to touch his feet. Sonu Kumar, who participated in the satsang, said that the ground became more dangerous as it was swampy. An eyewitness revealed that the crowd came beyond the ground and the arrangements were not up to it.
