Veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao started a national award in his name to honour the film celebrities. Who have rendered special services to the Indian film industry. And this award gave it to Bollywood actor Devanand for the first time in 2006.
Akkineni International Foundation was established with a capital of one crore rupees under the chairmanship of T. Subbarami Reddy to give these awards regularly every year. Since then, Shabana Azmi, Anjali Devi, Vyjayanthi Mala, Lata Mangeshkar, K. Balachander, Hema Malini and Shyam Benegal have received Akkineni National Award respectively.
After that there was a gap of two years for the award. The award was given to Amitabh Bachchan back in 2014. After that again there was a gap of two years. Back in 2016, the journalist Gudipudi Srihari was given the ANR Award. After that director Rajamouli, Sridevi and Rekha received this award. After that there was a gap again.
After five years, Nagarjuna announced on Friday that Megastar Chiranjeevi will now be given the ANR National Award. He said that this award will be presented on the 28th of next month by the hands of All India Megastar Amitabh. Nagarjuna revealed that the award will be given once every two years from now on. Nagarjuna said that Chiranjeevi got emotional when he told this matter and that there is no bigger award than this.
