IAS Officer J Syamala Rao appointed as new TTD Executive Officer by AP government

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), one of the wealthiest Hindu temple trusts in the world, has named IAS Officer J Syamala Rao as its new executive officer in an administrative reorganization recently carried out by the Andhra Pradesh government’s alliance government.

The TTD oversees the Lord Venkateshwara Swamy temple located on Tirumala in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. Rao, an IAS officer from the 1997 batch, succeeds AV Dharma Reddy in this role.

The appointment was announced by the General Administration (SC.A) Department on June 14. This relieved the senior Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES) officer of his additional duties as the TTD Executive Officer. In the past, Syamala Rao served as the district collector for Visakhapatnam.

Newly sworn-in Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has accused the previous government of corruption and mismanagement within the TTD administration, promising to “purify the governance” of the Tirumala administration.

Speaking to reporters in Tirumala after his swearing-in ceremony in Vijayawada and before assuming his duties as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Naidu stated, “Crimes will not be tolerated.”

He further emphasized, “Some people are making false accusations against us after committing crimes. Political conspiracies will not be tolerated. I will start the purification of governance from Tirumala.”
