Latest News in India: In a high-stakes operation, Tamil Nadu police shot dead a man for his suspected involvement in Thrissur ATM heist and for failing to stop a container lorry near Namakkal on Friday.
The vehicle was found to be carrying over Rs 60 lakh in cash and weapons.
The accident was in Kumarapalayam, Namakkal district, where police have taken into custody the lorry and a car also with suspicion that the gang is associated with ATM robbery in Thrissur. According to the police sources, among the seven inside the container lorry, one of the robbery suspects is reportedly killed during the confrontation. Police are now probing the suspected links between the suspects of the seven arrested persons with an ATM robbery of recent times in Thrissur, Kerala.
It came under the police scanner on Friday when the vehicle got involved in a road accident with another vehicle. As the police tried to intercept the lorry, the gang refused to stop the vehicle and started speeding it up.
According to reports, at that time when the police tried to stop the lorry, the men reportedly began attacking the police. In response, the police allegedly opened fire at the gang, killing one of them on Friday.
Following this, the police surrounded the vehicle and nabbed the suspects. According to preliminary investigation, the robbers are said to be from Haryana or Rajasthan. As a result, Kerala special forces police have rushed to Namakkal.
Thrissur SBI Robbery
A gang robed three state-run ATMs of State Bank of India on Friday. The gang had robbed over Rs 65 lakhs from the ATMs located at Mapranam, Kolazhy and Shornur Road near Swaraj Round.
The robbery reportedly happened between 2:30 AM and 4 AM on Friday, for which the gang had used a gas cutter to break open the ATMs.
After that, Thissur police informed the police in Palakkad, Coimbatore and Salem, where similar robberies were reported recently, as Manorama reports.
