NRI Latest News: Bangladesh authorities have received a legal notice about power agreements with India’s Adani Group.
Barrister M. Kaiyum sought the cancellation of the ‘one-sided’ agreements from the concerned authorities. He sent a letter by post on November 5th.
In the letter, the barrister said the concerned authorities must take up the matter for immediate reconsideration and or complete cancellation.
In the notice, the authorities are mandated to begin reviewing the agreements; and if they do not, then a writ petition will be filed in the High Court. The complainants also requested the formation of a review panel, consisting of energy and legal experts, which is to deliver a detailed report.
The officials of the Bangladesh Power Development Board and secretary to the energy ministry have been asked to respond to the notice in three days. Bangladesh had signed an agreement with Adani for power purchase in 2017.
The country has been receiving power from Adani’s 1600 MW power plant in Jharkhand.
