Sports News: Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali strictly criticized Sufiyan Muqeem, who quarreled with India on-field during the group match between India and Pakistan in the ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024. India began their campaign from the very first day as they outclassed their arch-rivals by 7 runs which added their first win.
The ACC Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 is underway in Oman and the Men In Blue took on Pakistan at Al Amerat on Saturday. Batting first, they posted 183 runs on the board, riding on some heavy batting from Tilak Varma, Prabhsimran Singh, and Abhishek. Pakistan came close but the Indian bowlers managed to hold their nerves to take themselves to a close-fought victory over their rivals. The incident occurred when spinner Sufiyan Muqeem sent back Abhishek. The latter was perceived to give a “silence gesture” to the Indian opener, which accelerated the heated exchange between the two players on the field.
Umpires Chamara de Zoysa and Rahul Asher had to intervene to cool down the two players. Basit Ali reminded the young player on his YouTube channel how to behave on the field in a cricket match. He said, “The cricket was top-class, but one thing that upset me was the incident involving Sufiyan Muqeem and Abhishek Sharma. If I were sitting in the dugout or the team manager, I would have told Sufiyan, ‘Son, pick up your things and go back.’
You haven’t even played proper cricket for Pakistan yet, and you’re already dishing out abuses. What kind of behaviour is that? “You are hurling abuses-did you take a hat-trick or what? (Aap gaaliyan de rahe hain, kya aapne hat-trick leliya?) You are not even at that level yet.”. The management should teach the young players how to respect their opposition. Pakistan are the champions of Emerging Asia Cup defending title having defeated India in the finals by 128 runs last year in Colombo.
