OLA Cab: The business of ride hailing companies is growing into three flowers and six pods. By providing technology support, these companies are achieving a turnover of crores without having their own vehicles.
By charging high commissions, they are causing trouble to the drivers and the passengers by acting as favoritism. Many complaints have already been registered against companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido. Recently, the government gave a shock to Ola.
The government has issued key directives to the cab aggregator Ola headed by Bhavish Agarwal. A mechanism has been mandated to enable customers to choose the refund method of their choice. To this extent, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) under the Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs has clearly stated. Ola suggests providing a bill, receipt or invoice for every auto ride booked through the platform.
According to National Consumer Helpline (NCH) data, more than 2,000 complaints were registered against Ola from the beginning of this year till October 9. Charges higher than what was shown at the time of booking, failure to provide refunds and behaviour of drivers, difficulty in taking passengers to the right place, taking passengers to wrong destination are high.
In addition to these, Ola is offering the refund amount as coupons to the customers during the redressal of complaints. The CCPA got this wrong. It has been directed to give the option to the customers to have the amount directly deposited into their bank accounts. Ola found that by offering refunds in the form of coupons, passengers were tempted to use their platform again without fail. That is why clear instructions were given on this matter.
