Latest news India : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has taken another sensational decision. It was announced in the Legislative Assembly on Friday that the two-hour namaz break given every Friday in the State Assembly will be cancelled.
He described the decision as a way to increase the productivity of the Sabha’s programs and eliminate colonial-era practices. The CM thanked the Speaker of the Assembly and other legislators for their support in canceling the outdated ‘Jumma’ break. A two-hour break in the assembly followed on Fridays was introduced in 1937 by Syed Sadullah of the Muslim League.
Meanwhile, before this, the Himant Biswa government also approved the bill to properly register Muslim marriages and divorces on Thursday. The CM said that the Kazi system will be abolished with this bill, polygamy and child marriages will be curbed and girls will be uplifted.
By doing away with the 2 hour Jumma break, @AssamAssembly has prioritised productivity and shed another vestige of colonial baggage.
