National News: CM Dhami orders a magistrate inquiry into the accident. The Ramganga river valley gushing down below Marchula in Almora rang with screams on Monday morning. Women, children, old. Screams and weeping everywhere. Diwali joy turned to mourning just two days later. A bus from Pauri carrying 42 hapless passengers returning to the metropolis after celebrating the festival plunged into a deep gorge in Marchula. This accident was so horrific that any onlooker became stun-struck. The bus jumped off the road, hit a rock, and then rolled down to the Ramganga River. The bus was shattered after hitting the rock. Many passengers were thrown out of the bus and fell into bushes here and there. Some fell into the river along with the bus. 22 persons died on the spot in the accident.
Meanwhile, passengers were writhing with severe pain for several hours. Later on, local people arrived at the site and helped. Rescue teams also arrived here. The bodies from the river were brought out. Rescue workers were also saddened while seeing the mutilated bodies of children and women. Because of hitting the rock, the passengers scattered here and there in the bushes. In such a situation, the task of finding the passengers was even becoming difficult. The accident occurred around 8:30 in the morning. The bus fell into the ditch in Kupi village of Almora. When this bus fell into the ditch, there were 45 to 50 passengers in it, whereas this is a 42-seater bus.
Some people were thrown out of the bus.
It is being told that when the bus was passing through a place called Kupi, there were more people in it than its capacity. Some people were also travelling standing in the bus. In this process, the bus became out of control and fell into a deep ditch. When the bus fell into the ditch, some people were thrown out from the bus. Those people explained what had happened to the bus to the local people present there. After getting the information from the local people, the police reached the spot and started the rescue operation. Even, the local police also had called the SDRF team for relief and rescue work.
Air ambulance dispatched, hospitals on tannoy
The Injured ones are being brought to the Ramnagar hospital. The bus has sunked into a 200 metres deep ditch so rescues faced much problem when took the injured one onto main road. Some also came the hospital in personal cars. Air ambulances have also been sent to the accident site so that more seriously injured people can be immediately taken to the hospital. The administration has asked all the hospitals around the accident site to remain on alert mode.
How did the accident happen?
It is being told that there were more people in the bus than its capacity. Some people were also standing in the bus. More than 50 people are sitting in a 42-seater bus. Hence it is assumed that owing to the overload the bus has fallen into the ditch. Once more times it has not happened at the right time of management with buses on the hill tops and may be cause behind accident also. Meanwhile any statement comes regarding such incidents still is silent here. SDRF teams are working on relief and rescue operations.
CM Dhami issued instructions for magistrate inquiry into the incident
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident and said, ‘Very sad news has been received about the casualties of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident in Marchula of Almora district. The district administration has been instructed to conduct relief and rescue operations with speed. Local administration and SDRF teams on the spot are working very fast to take the injured to the closest health centre for treatment and airlift badly injured passengers if required. In addition to this, the CM has ordered to provide Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to each injured and the Commissioner Kumaon Division has been ordered to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
