Latest News in India: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief, Tariq Hameed Karra said on Wednesday that the Congress party is not joining any Ministry in the newly formed J-K government “at the moment” despite repeated promises made by Prime Minister for statehood, it has not been restored.
Congress Party is not joining the Ministry in the Jammu and Kashmir government at the moment. Congress has strongly demanded the Centre to restore Statehood to J-K, besides the Prime Minister has time and again in public meetings promised the same. But the Statehood has not been restored to J-K.
“We are unhappy therefore we are not joining the Ministry at the moment. Congress Party shall continue to fight for restoration of Statehood,” JKPCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra said.
In another development, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
The oath of office was administered to Abdullah and his council of ministers by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Saxena at the Sheri-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar. LG Sinha further administered oath as ministers in Cabinet to National Conference MLA from Mendhar Javed Ahmed Rana, Javid Ahmad Dar from Rafiabad, Sakina Itoo from DH Pora, and Surinder Kumar Chowdhary.
It was Satish Sharma, independent MLA from Chhamb assmebly seat, who was inducted into Omar Abdullah-led cabinet.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were among the leaders present at the swearing in ceremony. Many leaders of the INDIA Bloc attended the JKNC Vice President’s swearing in ceremony, which included Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, CPI (Marxist) leader Prakash Karat, Supriya Sule from the NCP-SCP, DMK MP Kanimozhi, AAP leader Sanjay Singh and CPI leader D Raja.
PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti was also present on the occasion during the oath-taking ceremony. In the assembly polls, the Congress-National Conference had won 48 seats as the NC had bagged 42 seats and the Congress could win only six seats in the Jammu Kashmir assembly polls.
It will be the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories.
