Mumbai: The bags and helicopters of the leaders who are participating in the Maharashtra Assembly election campaign are being checked. Recently, Election Commission officials checked the bags of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. EC officials conducted checks on Saturday when the helicopter in which Rahul was traveling for the election campaign in Maharashtra’s Amaravati landed. While they were checking the bags, Rahul left the place to talk to his party leaders. The latest incident took place in the wake of the furor over the 45-minute delay in granting permission to Rahul Gandhi’s helicopter as part of the Jharkhand Assembly election campaign on Friday.
Recently in Maharashtra, the EC officials repeatedly checked the bags of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray and Thackeray released a related video. Thackeray questioned whether similar inspections will be conducted when the Prime Minister and BJP leaders visit. However, the EC’s action was supported by the BJP leaders. It is stated that this is a routine process to conduct free and fair elections.
Meanwhile, the EC officials recently checked the luggage of several NDA leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Pawar in the course of the opposition’s allegations that they were checking only selected leaders. In Maharashtra, which has 288 assembly constituencies, polling will be held in a single phase on 20th of this month. The results will be out on November 23.
