AHMEDABAD: A huge explosion occurred in the refinery of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in Vadodara, Gujarat. The incident took place around 3.50 pm on Monday. The explosion occurred in a storage tank in the refinery. Due to this, a huge fire broke out from the refinery and thick smoke spread for kilometers. As soon as the information was received, 10 fire engines were rushed and the fire was brought under control.
Due to the large scale explosion and fire, the surrounding companies and people were panicked. As soon as the fire broke out, the workers in the refinery were evacuated to safety. Officials said there was no loss of life in the incident. The cause of the explosion is being investigated. The extent of the damage is estimated.
Meanwhile, in 2005, a similar fire broke out at IOCL in Vadodara and 13 people were injured. However, the damage estimates and the reasons for the incident are not clear after that. The incident raised doubts about the safety protocol and maintenance at the IOCL facility.
