Latest News: Sharing food is a sweet gesture, but doing it on the train is a gamble. The Indian Railways generally advises against taking food from unknown people. However, over long routes, while traveling by train, laughter and food sharing with fellow travelers seem to be normal but danger lurks close by.
On a casual look, it appeared to be a typical family picnic. It was traveling with large packets under its seats, replete with mirth and glee. They were carrying their tiffin boxes and distributing some food to the other passengers too. But there was a terrible truth hidden beneath this frothy exterior. Frequent travelers also included 45-year-old Anita, popularly known as Mano, 26-year-old Amaan Rana, and a girl who was only 16 years old.
The fact that they shared their meals seemed normal for them. In reality, they were tied up with a drug trafficking network. Special Police Commissioner Debesh Srivastava initiated the operation “Kavach Code” to catch the drug smugglers. That’s how this family came into the radar of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch while making the arrests of all three of them.
The entire network of drug trafficking was busted, and 400 kg of drugs were recovered from different places. Four more members of the trafficking gang were also arrested by this team led by Additional CP Sanjay Bhatia and DCP Satish Kumar who were investigating the modus operandi of the smugglers, routes and sources of drug supply. It eventually came to light that at the tail end of this chain was a student from a school and college, by whom such drugs reached their ultimate destinations.
Tip-offs to the investigators first pointed out that Anita and Amaan were running a drug trafficking racket in the garb of a family. Subsequently, SP Narendra Beniyawal and Crime Branch officer Sandeep Tushir set up a trap, trapping the trio dramatically. The police seized 41.5 kg of cannabis from them, valued at about ₹5 million.
