In 1999, the Pakistan Army launched the Kargil War against India in the guise of terrorists. However, even after 25 years of this war, Pakistan Army has never commented on its love in it.
Pakistan Army is an open secret behind this war but never admits its role. Meanwhile, for the first time, Pakistan has made key comments on its role in the war.
On the occasion of Pakistan Defence Day on Friday, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir said that they had a role in the Kargil war. “In 1948, 1965, 1971, and the Kargil wars between India and Pakistan, as well as in Siachen, thousands of people sacrificed their lives in these conflicts,” he said. He made these remarks in a speech at the Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi.
India effectively foiled Pakistan’s plan. In the name of “Operation Vijay” Pakistan captured all the occupied areas. It killed the Pakistani troops and the infiltrators in strategic posts.
In the past, Pakistan has repeatedly claimed that its army was not involved in the Kargil war. It described the infiltrators and terrorists as “Kashmiri freedom fighters” and “Mujahideen”. These comments made by Army Chief Asim Munir have become a sensation on social media. Many journalists are sharing photos of that day. They questioned the journalists there about the Pakistan Army’s refusal to take the dead bodies of the war dead.
Nawaz Sharif, who was Pakistan’s prime minister during the Kargil war, described the war as a “blunder”. Lt Gen(retd) Shahid Aziz also accepted the role of their forces in Kargil after his retirement. Aziz described the operation as a “four-man show” known only to General Pervez Musharraf and a few other top commanders. Nawaz Sharif, who signed the Lahore Declaration in 1999 along with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, later said that Pakistan had violated the agreement by the Kargil action.
