Andhra Pradesh latest news : The High Court asked senior advocate and former AG Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy that how will you answer the questions asked by the police officers investigating the case of former Minister of Andhra Pradesh and YCP leader Jogi Ramesh .
The High Court asked senior advocate Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy whether it is right to sit next to the accused in a case and answer the questions asked by the police.
Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy told the High Court that the police had issued notices to his client Jogi Ramesh three times and that is why he went with him. Senior lawyer Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy argued in the court that Jogi Ramesh had applied for a SIM card number to Idea Phone Company 20 years ago and the police asked if he had that paper with him.
Senior Advocate Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy gave an explanation before the court that the police asked Jogi Ramesh what IMEI number was and he replied to the police officers that Jogi Ramesh did not know the IMEI number. Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy told the High Court that as the police issued notices to Jogi Ramesh three times, he accompanied him to the police station and answered the questions asked by the police out of a humanitarian perspective, and he had no other intention.
On behalf of the police, senior advocates Siddhartha Luthra, Posani Venkateswarlu and public prosecutor Menda Lakshminarayana argued before the High Court. Senior advocate Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy told the court that former minister Jogi Ramesh should not sit next to him while the police were questioning him. The lawyers of the police told the court that even the police had no objection if Jogi Ramesh’s lawyer Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy sat at such a distance that he could see him.
Apart from that, the lawyers on behalf of the police argued in the High Court that how his lawyer Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy was sitting next to the accused Jogi Ramesh and answering the questions asked by the police. Senior advocate Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy cannot sit next to Jogi Ramesh, advocate Posani Venkateshwarlu, appearing for the police, told the High Court.
Lawyers on behalf of the police appealed to the High Court that Jogi Ramesh is an accused in the attack on TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s house and that if he is granted bail it will have a severe impact on the society and his bail petition should be dismissed. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s house in Tadepalli was attacked when he was the leader of the opposition.
In 2021, Tadepalli police registered cases against many people for the attack on Chandrababu’s house. In the same case, former minister and YCP leader Jogi Ramesh approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court for anticipatory bail. In this same case, former minister Jogi Ramesh’s lawyer Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy and the lawyers on behalf of the police heard arguments in the High Court. The High Court said that the judgment will be given on September 3 after the arguments of both sides are completed.
