Paralympics : India’s medal haul has slowed down in the last three days. On Thursday.. Para judoka Kapil Parmar, who is visually impaired, only got bronze in India’s account. With this, the total number of medals targeted in these games has reached 25 (5 Gold, 9 Silver, 11 Bronze). With so many matches still to go, it is heartening for India to reach the target it had already set. India has never won so many medals in the 64-year history of the Paralympics. She won 19 medals in Tokyo Olympics.
Parmar defeated Elialton de Oliveira (Brazil) 10-0 in the men’s judo J-1 60kg category bronze medal match. This is the first time that India has won a medal in Judo. Parmar lost 0-10 to Banitaba Khurram Abadi (Iran) in the semis. Kapil won silver in 2022 Asian Games. Parmar from Madhya Pradesh got a shock when he touched a motor while playing in the field. He was found unconscious by the villagers and admitted to the hospital. Kapil, who was in a coma for six months, survived but lost his eyesight. Kapil’s father is a taxi driver. His second brother Lalit is learning Judo. Parmar also learned blind judo with his help. Meanwhile, Kapil is running Teastal along with Anna to make a living. In the women’s 48kg J-2 category repechage round, Kokila lost 0-10 to Ivanitsyka (Ukraine).
Harinder’s ‘double’ miss..
Recurve archer Harvinder Singh, who won gold, bagged the second medal in Thruti. In the mixed recurve, Harinder faltered in the shootout and lost the bronze medal by a couple of points. Harinder-Pooja pair lost 4-5 to Slovenia’s Dejan Fabkic-Ziva Lavrink in the bronze medal match. Indian pair won in 1st and 3rd sets. Slovenian pair won in 2nd and 4th sets and the score was tied at 4-4. But, Harvinder (8 points) and Pooja (9 points) scored a total of 17 points in the shootout. The Slovenian pair scored 19 points and won. Harvinder-Pooja lost 2-6 to Italy’s Elisabetta-Stefano Travisani in the semis.

Indian shooters could not reach the final in mixed 50m prone SH1. Mona Aggarwal is 30th with 610.5 points and Siddharth Basu is 22nd with 615.5 points.
4th place for Simran
Indian athlete Simran stood fourth in women’s 100m T12 category. Among the four contestants in the final, Simran failed with a timing of 12.31 seconds. Omara Durand won the gold with a timing of 11.81 seconds. Oksana (Ukraine), Katrin Muller (Cuba) won silver and bronze.
Ashok failed..
Indian player Ashok stood sixth in powerlifting 65 kg category. Ashok, who lifted 196 and 199 kg in three attempts, failed to lift 206 kg in the third attempt.
