Sports News: Ruthless aggression at its finest. India packed a wallop and served Bangladesh a dollop of ‘Jais-ball’ as they ransacked the visitors to seal a thrilling win on Tuesday. India’s win came from an unlikely position where the inclement weather and wet outfield meant that both Day 2 and Day 3 were washed out. That left Rohit Sharma and co with two playing days to their disposal, and they milked those two to go on a record-breaking spree in helping themselves get back in contention for a win and improving their chances at confirming a spot in the World Test Championship final for the third season in succession.
It was a sudden spurt of aggression on both the batting as well as bowling front that left all the onlookers dazed, and one amongst them was former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar who found himself speechless over the clinical performance by the Men in Blue.
“India have had some short Test matches where they have dominated and won. For example, the pink-ball day-and-night Test against England in Ahmedabad, which India won in a very short time. Three was one against Australia as well. So, these things have happened,” recalled Manjrekar.
“But, the pitches there were absolute rank turners, which suited India a lot more than they did the opposition. But in this case against Bangladesh, where the visitors had a great opportunity to make a mark in the series, the pitches were not ideal for the Indian bowling attack.”
“Despite that, this was the kind of dominance we have never seen before… it was just another terrific performance by India,” exclaimed the former Indian cricketer.
The good thing that has been going for India since this tour of Bangladesh is their defeating the clock at Kanpur as they wrapped up the series in spite of nearly two days of rain-forced suspensions as they cleaned out Bangladesh for 233 runs in the first innings before replying with 285 for the loss of nine wickets in the first half of the second innings before declaration.
India bundled out Bangladesh for 146 runs in the second innings in a hurry before chasing down the low target of 95 runs in unbelievable style before the completion of the final day’s play. The win helped India entrench its position at the top of the WTC 2023-25 points table as they are inching towards making it to their third consecutive WTC Final.
