The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said in a statement that the ODI World Cup held last year has brought significant financial benefits to India
It explained that this mega event has had a big economic impact and the hospitality sector in India has benefited in a big way with foreign tourists.
India became the runner-up in this mega tournament held last October and November. The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup has proved the economic power of cricket. India as a host managed to earn a revenue of 1.39 billion US dollars (Rs. 11, 637 crores).
Cricket fans from all over the world flock to India to watch this World Cup. With the arrival of tourists, the host cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Chennai have generated income of crores of rupees through the sale of hotels, meals, accommodation, transportation, food items and beverages.
It said that the purchasing power has increased during the tournament, huge revenue has been generated in the form of tickets and 12.50 lakh spectators have come to watch the cricket matches. According to ICC, this is the first time in the history of ICC World Cups that an average attendance of 75 percent has been recorded. ICC has explained that 48 thousand people have been employed with full-time and part-time jobs by serving tourists and domestic audiences.
