NRI Latest News: Israel’s defense minister Yoav Gallant on Monday said that elimination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was not the final step and hinted at Israel’s intention of mounting a ground invasion of Lebanon, after he told troops in the north of the country that “we will use all of our capabilities – including you.” “The elimination of Nasrallah is an important step, but it is not the final one.”.
To ensure that the northern communities of Israel return to their homes, we’ll mobilize all our capabilities, and this includes you, AFP quoted Gallant as saying to soldiers deployed to the northern border.
Appealing for calm, Gallant said the return of Israelis to their homes in the north was “the mission of the IDF,” The Guardian report said, referring to about 60,000 who have had to evacuate because of repeated rocket fire from Lebanon.
“That is what we will do, and we will deploy whatever is needed – you, other forces, from the air, from the sea, and from the land,” he added.
Earlier, Hezbollah’s deputy leader Naim Qassem defiantly announced that Nasrallah would soon be replaced.
He claimed Hezbollah was still using only a small portion of its capabilities against Israel.
Qassem said the group’s massive arsenal made the fight more impossible for them to quit and continued to emphasize that they are definitely fighting for their cause.
He stated that any other organization, which has undergone such sabotage attacks, as it is happening in Lebanon, would have collapsed by now, but Hezbollah remained strong.
The attacks, killing scores of people and many are injured, according to reports, form part of an Israeli campaign to hit Hezbollah operatives.
Operations in Gaza continue as airstrikes by Israel go on, killing reportedly 12 others with a journalist among the casualties on Monday. Lebanon has seen killings of about 1,000 people with 6,000 injured and one million displaced by Israeli bombardment.
Over the weekend, Israel struck targets in Yemen’s rebel-held area, while on Monday morning, Syrians said blasts had rocked the capital Damascus.
