Jagan Mohan Reddy addresses concerns about EVMs after YCP's election defeat.

Jagan Tweet: The number of Legislative Assembly seats held by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YCP has drastically decreased, from 151 to just 11. Following this loss, the party has expressed loudly its disapproval of the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Jagan Mohan Reddy himself used Twitter today to voice his disapproval of EVMs and call for a switch back to paper ballots. “Paper ballots, not electronic voting machines, are used in almost every advanced democracy’s electoral practices worldwide,” he declared. To preserve the authentic essence of our democracy, we too must strive in that direction.”

On social media, this position has drawn a varied response, though. Many responses to Jagan’s tweet suggest that he is finding it difficult to accept the overwhelming public consensus that is against him. Critics point out that when his party won 151 seats with the same technology, Jagan remained silent on the matter of EVMs. “If Jagan truly had doubts about EVM, he should have raised this question in 2019,” a commenter said. “But he lost the public mandate in 2024.”

There have been conflicting responses to the tweet on social media. Some YCP supporters see Jagan’s call for paper ballots as a sign of poor sportsmanship in the wake of the party’s electoral defeat, while others agree with him. Jagan Tweet
