Latest News in India: Political tension brewing in Karnataka Karnataka state govt has decided to stop general permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for probing cases in the state.
This is at a time when serious allegations are coming against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA land scam. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed the Congress outright, saying it is desperate to get out of justice.
Karnataka CM Under Fire For MUDA Scam: The MUDA scam is at the heart of the controversy-a Rs 56 crore scam in which it is accused that the Chief Minister’s wife has been handed over 14 sites erroneously from the Mysore Urban Development Authority. The Special Court in Bengaluru recently issued orders to the Lokayukta police to file a criminal case against the CM and others involved on charges likely including corruption, benami property holdings, and land grabbing.
The CM, however, refuses to budge. He has been open about not resigning and said that the calls for his resignation are similar to others of political leaders in the form of HD Kumaraswamy. “I won’t resign; why should I resign? There are allegations on HD Kumaraswamy, did he resign? Let Kumaraswamy resign,” the CM remarked.
BJP’s Sharp Criticism: ‘Congress is Bhrashtachar Ki Dukan’ – Shehzad Poonawalla, spokesperson of BJP: It is crystal-clear Congress has become a ‘Bhrashtachar ki Dukan’ (shop of corruption). He emphasized the fact that instead of taking on the charges against the CM, the Congress is looking to save itself from facing questions by withdrawing its consent for the CBI to probe any matter in its state.
Poonawalla referred to a recent High Court order in the MUDA scam, stating that the Special Court had directed the filing of an FIR. “Instead of resigning, the CM is showing arrogance,” he said, accusing the state leadership of using this as a last ditch effort to avoid scrutiny.
Withdrawal of CBI Consent in Karnataka: Withdrawal of general consent for CBI probe by state governments has become a contentious issue in recent years, and Karnataka is the latest addition to that list. This way, now, the state government restricts the CBI from probing any case without its permission, which makes the job harder for the central agency to investigate high-profile cases such as the MUDA scam.
“This is all a subterfuge of the Congress to save themselves from some legal consequences. But whoever has done corruption has to pay the price,” he said, asking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to take action.
BJP Leveled Looting Charges of Land
The BJP has not just zeroed in on the current MUDA scam but has also broadened its attack on the Congress party’s model of governance. Poonawalla alleged that land looting is a pattern seen wherever Congress comes into power. “They loot wherever they come into power. If they somehow come to power in Haryana, they will loot there also,” he said, attacking the Congress for its alleged history of corruption.
