Latest News India : After a long wait, the Supreme Court granted him conditional bail for Sisodia. After 17 months in the excise policy case, the bench of Justice BR Gavai issued the final verdict granting him bail.
The Supreme Court directed Sisodia to appear before the investigating agency every Monday. The verdict was reserved a few days ago and released today.
Bail to Sisodia
The verdict on the bail petition of former Deputy CM of Delhi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the Supreme Court. Sisodia was granted bail. Manish Sisodia will release after 17 months. Supreme Court granted bail to Sisodia in corruption and money laundering cases. The bench observed that no accused can be kept in jail indefinitely. It said that if there is no progress in the trial of the case… he cannot be kept in jail after crossing a certain limit. The Supreme Court opined that it is not like that… if they want to keep him in jail, it means taking away the rights of that person.

A few days ago, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail in the Delhi Liquor Policy case. The Supreme Court opined that if the person is to be kept in jail for a long period of time, it is a deprivation of the rights of the person. The bench said that it is their right to apply for bail and get bail. The bench rejected all the arguments made by the investigating agencies that Sisodia should not be granted bail. The trial court also set aside the order that Sisodia was also responsible for the delay in the trial.
Conditions apply
The Supreme Court commented that the time has come for trial courts and high courts to realize that bail is the rule and jail is the exception. The order made it clear that Sisodia should cooperate for speedy trial. ED and CBI opposed Sisodia’s bail. Sisodia requested the Supreme Court to grant him bail as there was no progress in the cases against him. With this, the Supreme Court granted conditional bail. The court advised him not to leave the country. Ordered to surrender the passport.
