Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao downplayed recent defections of party MLAs to the ruling Congress, stressing the enduring power of public support.

In response to Jagtial MLA M. Sanjay Kumar joining Congress, KTR remarked, “The people’s strength surpasses those in power. We’ve faced similar challenges in the past when Congress was in control from 2004-06. Telangana responded with strong public movements then, and history may repeat itself.”

Sanjay Kumar’s defection marks the fifth BRS MLA to switch sides since Congress took office last December. Former Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, another prominent BRS leader, recently joined Congress, further impacting BRS’s legislative presence.

After initially securing 39 seats in the 119-member Assembly, BRS currently only has 33 seats, which is a reflection of recent electoral setbacks, such as a defeat to the ruling party in the Secunderabad Cantonment by-election.

The state’s governance and party dynamics will be influenced by these developments as Telangana’s political landscape continues to shift and encounter new challenges.
