Sports News: Quite a change has been seen in Marnus Labuschagne of Australia in the past two years. Labushagne recalled an incident from his first Border-Gavaskar Trophy match in 2018 and said Kohli used to be very aggressive back then.
However, he hasn’t seen the same aggression in Kohli since then. Under Virat Kohli’s leadership in the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India created history by winning their first-ever Test series in Australia.
Gautam Gambhir asked to join India as batting coach only for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Marnus Labuschagne plays mind games on Virat Kohli.
While talking to Star Sports, Marnus Labuschagne talked about his first experience playing against Virat Kohli as a member of an opposing team. The star Australian batter said he was very intense during a series Kohli captained India for in 2018.
The series has had quite fiery encounters with both teams. Though Labuschagne added Kohli’s aggression has dipped consistently since then and that he has never been the same.
“My first memory of Virat was probably, from a playing perspective, the 2018 series. He was the captain at that time, I think, and was quite intense. When I watched the series, it was a very intense series,” Labuschagne said.
“I probably haven’t seen that same Virat since then, you know, the start of that series. For a long time, he’s just been a quality act, but my first memory would be that,” he added.
Marnus Labuschagne’s Test record against India
Marnus Labuschagne made his Test debut during this series. India went on to win that series 2-1 and scripted history by becoming the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia. It was humiliating for Australia who had been so dominating at home over the years.
Australia played the series without Steve Smith and David Warner. The players were serving their bans to which they had been subjected in a ball-tampering case.
Against India, Marnus Labuschagne appears pretty confident about his batting abilities. On the tour to India during the Test matches, where he played all 10 Tests, Marnus Labuschagne made a total of 775 runs at an average of 45.58. In addition, he had struck three fifty-plus scores and one hundred.
Virat Kohli record in Test Cricket in Australia
Virat Kohli has also got an excellent record against Australia. The 36-year-old India batter has scored 2042 runs at an average of 47.48 in 25 Tests against Australia. In terms of his records in Australia, Kohli has scored 1352 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 54.08 with 4 hundreds and 6 fifties.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will begin on November 22. The first test of the series would be at Perth, and the second test would be the day-night test at Adelaide. Then comes the test at Gabba in Brisbane. Lastly, Melbourne hosts the Boxing Day Test while Sydney the New Year’s Test.
India will come under tremendous pressure going into the series after losing the home Test series to New Zealand recently. Virat Kohli had a horrible Test season as he managed just 1 fifty-plus score in five Tests.
