Good news for those who have applied for US visas and are waiting for interview slots. The US Embassy on Monday disclosed that 2.5 lakh additional visa slots have been released for Indians.
It said that there are slots for tourists, professionals and students. As a result, Indians will be able to get visas on time, she explained. ‘We have released the slots as part of the objective decided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Biden to increase the speed of issuing visas. We are proud to say that we are fulfilling this promise. According to the demand, we are conducting visa interviews,’ said Eric Garcetti, US ambassador to India.
There has been a huge demand for US visas in recent times. As a result, tourist visa slots are taking more than a year in some places. It is reported that the American Embassy is taking action in this context.
12 lakh Indians have traveled to America so far this year. It is 35 percent higher than last year. The US embassy has already conducted over 10 lakh interviews in non-immigrant visa applications. In the last year too, more than 10 lakh interviews were conducted.
The embassy also revealed that it has created a record this year in the processing of student visas. She explained that interviews were conducted for all students who applied for visas for the first time.
Non-immigrant visas for 60 lakh people
The U.S. Embassy said the priority is to encourage family reunion, business growth, and tourism. It has been revealed that currently 60 lakh Indians have non-immigrant visas. She explained that thousands of visas are issued every day.
The US embassy had earlier said that 1.4 lakh visas have been issued to Indian students in 2023. This is higher than any other country in the world. It has been revealed that a record has been created in the issuance of student visas for three consecutive years.
