The President of the Maldives, Mohammed Muisu, was once considered anti-India, but now regards India as a worthy country. That means 2 days ago, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar visited Maldives. Since then, there has been a development in strong relations between the two countries.
Maldives handed over control of 28 islands to India as a result of India’s diplomatic efforts to counter China’s influence in the region. The agreement in this regard was signed by the President of Maldives, Mohammed Muisu. This handover also includes water and sanitation projects in the islands, representing a comprehensive partnership that goes beyond territorial control.
Earlier on Saturday, an agreement for India’s Line of Credit (LoC)-aid project and water and sewerage network in 28 islands of the Maldives was jointly signed by Jaishankar and Foreign Minister Zamir in the presence of President Muisu at the Maldives Presidency.
