Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again congratulated the athletes who won medals in the Paralympics held in Paris.
Modi interacted with the players at a special event organized at his residence on Thursday. In a 43-second video posted by the Sports Ministry on the net, Modi praised the medal winners and was seen talking to everyone. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandavya and Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) President Devendra Jajharia are also present.
Avani Lekhara, who bagged gold in the 10m Air Rifle event, gifted the Prime Minister with a T-shirt that read ‘Thank you for your support’. Bronze medalist Judoka Kapil Parmar took a special photo with the Prime Minister. Modi was seen signing his medal. The Prime Minister also greeted Telugu girl Jeevanji Deepthi who won bronze. Javelin thrower Sumit Antil, who won his second maiden in a row, laughed and joked with Modi.
He asked and learned about the success stories of each athlete. India, who put up an outstanding performance in the recently concluded Paris Paralympics, bagged a total of 29 medals with 7 gold, 9 silver and 13 bronze, finishing 18th overall.
On the floor for him…
One of the funniest events happened in this event. Dwarf javelin thrower Navdeep Singh, who achieved the feat, handed over the cap to Modi. However, since he is short, Modi sat on the floor to put on his hat. ‘Do you feel taller than me now?’ said the prime minister jokingly. Navdeep then asked Modi to autograph his throwing left hand.
