The Center has announced the name change to Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified that henceforth Port Blair will be called Sri Vijaya Puram. Amit Shah declared that Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a special place in our country’s freedom movement.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s determination is to remove the symbols of the British monarchy and see an independent India in every way. Union Minister Amit Shah said that the Center has taken this decision as part of that.
Sri Vijaya Puram is a symbol of our victory in the freedom struggle of the country. Amit Shah believes that the role of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is very important in that struggle.
Inspired by the vision of PM @narendramodi Ji, to free the nation from the colonial imprints, today we have decided to rename Port Blair as “Sri Vijaya Puram.”
While the earlier name had a colonial legacy, Sri Vijaya Puram symbolises the victory achieved in our freedom struggle…
