Movie News: It is known that ‘Laapataa ladies’ directed by Amir Khan’s ex-wife Kiran Rao has been officially selected for the 2025 Oscars from our country. Pratibha Ranta, who played the main character Pushparani in that movie, expressed happiness over this. In a recent interview to the English media, she thanked the Film Federation of India. “It is a pleasure to have our film in Oscar (Oscar 2024). Words are not coming. We really wanted this film to be nominated for Oscar from our country. Our hopes came true. Our hard work paid off. If you work with a goal in mind, the results will come by themselves. This is what is happening to me right now. I am enjoying twice as much as I expected. I am excitedly waiting to meet Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan,” she said.
Director Kiran Rao was delighted that this film was selected for Oscar. We put in a lot of hard work to bring this beautiful story to the screen and bring it to audiences. This is the result of that hard work. Cinema has become the key medium in reaching people across borders. I hope that the audience in India will like this film just as in the whole world,” she said.
The 12-member jury of the Film Federation of India has chosen the film for the Oscar. It is directed by Assamese director Jahnu Barua. He recently explained why he selected this film. “The jury should see the right films that represent India in all fields. Especially Lapata Ladies has shown the social systems and morals of India. Showed great Indianness. That is why we chose it out of 29 nominated films. This is not a decision made by one person in one day, mind you. All the jury members deliberated for 8 days and selected ‘Lapata Ladies,’ said Jahnu Barua.
