Telangana latest news : The state government has ordered that the ghee used for making laddoos and other prasads in most of the temples in Telangana should be purchased from Vijaya Dairy only.
All these years, it has expressed its indignation that temples have been preferred for private purchases and not public institutions. The latest order is to use only ‘Vijaya’ ghee in temples without working with tenders. It has been revealed that the representatives of the temples are ignoring the ghee produced by Vijaya Dairy under the government’s Dairy Development Association and are leaning towards private organizations for commissions.
While there are 12 temples in the state with an annual income of more than Rs. There are 24 temples with an income of Rs.50 lakh to Rs. There are another 325 who have an income of Rs.25 lakh to Rs.50 lakh. In almost all these temples ghee is purchased from private companies for laddu prasadam and offerings. While tenders are being called in big temples, it has been found that the authorities are buying directly from the organizations in the smaller ones.
Although Vijaya Sanstha, which is a public sector organization, gives high priority to the quality, the temples prefer private companies instead of this organization. Vijaya Dairy’s ghee purchases have slowed since the beginning of this year.
More than 50 tonnes of ghee has accumulated at the dairy as the Mumbai firms that used to buy it have now stopped. Officials have noted that if these stocks are kept for more days, the quality will suffer. Dairy MD Lakshmi wrote letters to the Department of Religion and all the temples in the state on March 15 and June 1 to buy ghee from their company. Requested to come forward to help the organization.
No response was received. In the wake of the recent Tirumala Laddu dispute, the top dairy officials discussed the situation with Savyasachi Ghosh, Special Chief Secretary of the State Animal Husbandry Department. He brought to the attention of the state government that temples are not using Vijaya ghee. On inquiry by the Department of Religion, it was revealed that not a single temple in the state is buying ghee from Vijaya Dairy.
Some temples were found to be taking from private organizations in the name of district dairies. It has been found that there have been irregularities in some places. Earlier in connection with the Basara temple, an officer had paid Rs. It is known that the anti-corruption department was found guilty of corruption to the extent of 5 crores.
Taking this issue seriously, the government has issued orders to purchase ghee from Vijaya Dairy in all temples across the state. It has warned that action will be taken if it is found that it has been taken from private companies.
