Chandigarh: A crucial development occurred in the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) party. On Saturday, Sukhbhir Singh Badal resigned from the post of party president. The Akal Takht recently declared him a violator (Tankhaiya) of Sikhism. In this order, Sukhbir Singh Badal resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal party and sent a letter to the party working committee. Daljit Singh Cheema, a senior leader of Saad, confirmed this matter.
Sukhbir Singh submitted his resignation to the party working committee. This paved the way for the election of a new president. Sukhbir expressed his gratitude to the party leaders and workers who believed in his leadership and supported him,” said Daljeet.
Daljeet said that Shiromani Akali Dal is a democratic party and as per the constitution of the party, elections for the post of president will be held once in five years. He said that the last election was held on December 14, 2019, and the five-year term will end on December 14 next month. He said that the president resigned in a democratic process and the working committee will meet on November 18 to look into the resignation and make a comprehensive announcement on the election. He said that anyone can contest in the elections, the House will take the final decision and whoever gets the majority will be elected as the President. Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal has been under criticism for a long time in dealing with key issues and facing political challenges in Punjab. Badal’s resignation is said to be a key development in this process. They say that this is an opportunity for party revival and to strengthen by highlighting the priorities once again.
