The Supreme Court once again acquitted Mamata Banerjee’s government in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal.
In particular, the Supreme Court expressed astonishment at the way the government followed in sending the body of a trainee doctor who was raped and murdered for post-mortem. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud directed the CBI to submit an updated investigation report.
The CBI today gave a report on the progress of the investigation to the Supreme Court bench which is investigating the Kolkata trainee doctor incident. It also mentions the obstacles faced by them. Responding to this, the Supreme Court hurled questions at the West Bengal government. It questioned that the autopsy was done without the official permission of the actual corpse. Not only that, she deposed how the dead body was handed over for postmortem without a challan.
Responding to this, the CBI said that even a doctor will not take a dead body for post-mortem without the original challan. It also said that CBI also did not find the challan during the investigation. Responding to this, the court denied whether the entire process was videotaped or not. In response to this, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, who appeared on behalf of Bengal, said that everything was recorded on video. Also, the Center accused the Bengal government of not cooperating with the CISF forces sent to RG Kar Hospital. With this, the Supreme Court ordered that the Center and the Bengal government should talk and resolve this issue.
