Latest News in India: The Uttar Pradesh government directed dhabas, eateries, and restaurants Tuesday to put up the names of owners, managers, and the staff members with a view to deter reported cases of urine being mixed into fruit juices and spitting on chapatis (roti) in various areas of the state.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also directed the launch of a state-wide campaign to inspect all such eateries and do the police verification of employees. He asked that this process be initiated immediately and police, food safety, and drug administration officials along with local authorities be utilized in joint teams.
According to official sources, the chief minister gave his directives during a high-level meeting with senior officials.
The chief minister said that, if required, rules be changed keeping in view the health and safety of the common people.
Adityanath said reports have come from all quarters of the country that the human excreta and other things were added to the products of edible items and beverages. He termed the incidents as “vile”.
The names of the owners, managers and others working there must be prominently displayed at every dhaba, restaurant and eatery…police verification of all the persons working there must be conducted, Adityanath said.
He also ordered CCTVs be installed, not only at customer seating areas but throughout other aspects of the restaurant. “Owners will be forced to retain the CCTV footage and hand it over to the police if required,” he said.
Directives Follow Remarks by Adityanath on Inauguration Day: Floating Restaurant in Gorakhpur. The directives followed shortly after Adityanath’s remarks during the inauguration of a floating restaurant in his hometown of Gorakhpur, where he condemned incidents of alleged spit and urine being mixed into food products and juices.
In an effort to “prevent any confusion” among the ‘kanwariyas’ or Hindu devotees who collect water from the sacred Ganga river to offer at Shiva temples during the month of Shravan, state government recently directed the eatery owners along the ‘kanwar yatra route’ in a few districts to display their names on their establishments. However, the Supreme Court stayed the directive to display names.
