Every year around the world, one million people are affected by the HIV epidemic. Thousands are dying. The disease cannot be cured as the HIV virus mutates frequently in the absence of the immune system.
Even with the powerful drugs and the seven vaccine doses already available, the effectiveness is minimal. With this, MIT researchers in America have developed a vaccine to control HIV.
Two doses at weekly intervals
This vaccine is given in two doses at weekly intervals for HIV control. 20 percent of the vaccine in the first dose and 80 percent of the vaccine in the second dose are given to the patient. With these two doses given over a short period of time, scientists believe that the vaccine does its job while the virus mutates and also stimulates the immune system. It has been revealed that positive results have been obtained in the experiments conducted on mice. ‘Interesting Engineering’ revealed these details.
