Sports News: David Warner has hit back at Cricket Australia for allegedly sweeping the ball-tampering controversy on India A under the carpet. In a practice game against Australia A, umpires accused India A of purposefully tampering with the condition of the ball. The Indian cricketers were reportedly seen asking an umpire, Shawn Craig, before play began on the final day, why the fresh ball was being thrown at them to resume.
The Indian team was told that the officials feel the scratches on the ball were made intentionally and therefore they were given a new ball. The claims left the Indian players stunned, and Ishan Kishan called the decision “stupid” after which Shawn Craig warned him for “inappropriate behaviour”. Cricket Australia subsequently issued a statement and exonerated India of allegations of ball tampering but said the ball was indeed changed because it had worn out and both teams were consulted by their respective captains and managers before play started. Warner, however believes the board has tried to smother the issue ahead of the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The former Australia cricketer wants CA to investigate into the incident and provide a detailed explanation on the issue. “They obviously flattened it as quickly as they could, given India is coming over here this summer,” Warner said on Wednesday.”But if the umpires deemed something happened, I am sure there will be a follow up.
I think the umpires or the match referee should be standing here answering questions. I think the match referee should be coming out and addressing his own staff, which are the umpires. And if they are standing by with the umpire’s decisions, then you have to stand up for that. That is an obvious statement CA have to release. I have not seen anything, he added.Warner was named the Sydney Thunders captain after his leadership ban was lifted by CA recently. Warner along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were punished by CA for their involvement in the 2018 ball-tampering saga against South Africa
