Latest news India : It is known that the Wayanad district of Kerala was recently hit by the wrath of nature. Landslides have caused many villages to be left in ruins.
In this context, Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) is visiting Wayanad on Saturday. An aerial survey was conducted to find out the severity of the encroachment.
Modi reached Kannur International Airport at 11 am this morning. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan welcomed the Prime Minister there. Later they all left for Wayanad in an Air Force helicopter. On that route, the Prime Minister had a bird’s-eye view of Mundakkai, Churalmala and other areas that were severely damaged by landslides. Union Minister Suresh Gopi was also present with the Prime Minister.
After landing the helicopter at Calpetta, Modi will reach the landslide affected areas by road from there and tour. The officials will explain the rescue operation and evacuation of the victims to the Prime Minister. Modi will visit the relief camps and hospitals and visit the victims. Later he will conduct a review with the officials.
Officials announced that at least 226 people lost their lives in this natural disaster that took place on July 29-30. Hundreds of people were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Unofficial sources put the death toll at over 300. Hundreds of houses were destroyed by landslides. Many people became homeless due to this.
