Once again, she strongly objected to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhad addressing Jaya Bachchan as Jaya Amitabh Bachchan. Dankhad expressed his anger on this and said seriously, “Don’t give me lessons”. As she demanded an apology from the Chairman, a chaotic atmosphere was created in the House. The opposition staged a walkout protesting the attitude of the chairman.
Jaya spoke to the media about this. “I strongly object to the tone used by the chairman. We are not school students. Some of us are senior citizens too. When the leader of the opposition stood up to speak, his speech was hurtful. The mic was cut. How do you behave? If you are a celebrity, they use harsh language like I don’t care. I am not asking him to care. I am representing the Rajya Sabha for the fifth time. I don’t know what to say..? Such behavior has never been seen before. An apology should be given for this,” she demanded. Sonia Gandhi was also with her at that time.
Recently, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayana Singh invited ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’ to speak. Jayabachchan objected to this. They said that ‘Jaya Bachchan is enough’. When he said, ‘Your full name is the same in the records’, he expressed some impatience that day saying, ‘Women do not have their own identity’.
