He said that wrestler Vinesh had protested strongly before the International Wrestling Association over the disqualification.
The sports minister said that when her weight was measured twice, she was found to be 50.100 kg. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he spoke to Indian Olympic Association chief PT Usha regarding Vinesh Phogat issue and advised him to take appropriate action.
The Union Minister said that the Olympic Association has given all kinds of assistance to Vinesh Phogat. It has been revealed that more than 70.45 lakhs have been spent on her. Vinesh Phogat defeated Cuba in the women’s 50 kg category semi-finals on Tuesday to reach the finals. Earlier, she created history by defeating Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Susaki. A few hours before the finals, all the Indians were disappointed when a bitter news came out. Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the World Games after being found overweight by the Olympic Committee.
The Union Sports Minister said that the weight of the wrestlers who compete in wrestling is checked every morning. Vinesh Phogat was disqualified as his weight was found to be excessive in those tests. They said that she was declared disqualified in the 50 kg category. It was found that the weight was 100 grams more than the expected weight.
Vinesh Phogat said that if a player fails to prove his weight or does not attend the weight test, he will be disqualified.. According to the Olympic rules, he will be moved down the list of ranks. Vinesh Phogatka said that the government is providing all kinds of assistance and cooperation. The Union Minister announced that besides providing him with sports facilities, he was given necessary training. He said that he spent Rs.70,45,775 for Vinesh in the Paris Olympics.
