CM Revanth Reddy has ordered the officials to work on the increase of BC reservation in local body elections. With the increase in BC reservation, funds from the center for local organizations will not stop.
It is advised to prepare plans to hold elections soon. They want to study the system of reservation in other states. He said that if a report is prepared on it, they will meet again before the assembly meetings and take a final decision. A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of CM Revanth Reddy at the secretariat on increasing BC reservation in panchayat elections.
The procedure followed in the last panchayat elections.. The officials briefed the CM on the preparations for the upcoming local body elections. The CM inquired how much time it would take to do the census. Officials explained that in 2011, the central government had done caste enumeration with 53 columns, adding three more to it would take at least five and a half months. Officials said that the caste census was conducted in Karnataka in 2015 and in Bihar in 2023, but the details were not disclosed even though it was conducted in AP as well. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Damodara Rajanarasimha, Ponnam Prabhakar, Seethakka, Konda Surekha, CM’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, MLC Theenmar Mallanna, Former Minister K. Jana Reddy, BC Commission Chairman Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan expressed their views on the feasibility of increasing reservation. Former minister Jana Reddy explained to the CM the procedures followed in the panchayat elections held so far in Telangana and the court disputes on BC reservation. CS Shantikumari and senior officials of CMO participated in this meeting.
