Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has shattered all expectations and set a new record in Hindi cinema. This horror-comedy has taken the box office by storm, becoming the second highest all-time opener in Bollywood, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. The film earned an impressive 55.4 crores nett on its opening day, second only to Jawan.
Stree 2 has left behind the big films such as Animal, KGF 2, War, and Thugs Of Hindostan, which proves its performance to the audience. With paid previews on Wednesday night adding another 9.4 crores nett, the total collection has reached 64.8 crores nett.
An interesting comparison: Stree, which released in 2018, earned 60 crores nett in its first week. In contrast, Stree 2 has already surpassed that figure with just its paid previews and opening day. If Stree 2 had released without any competition, it might have even reached an astonishing 70 crores nett.
Because of high demand, the makers arranged for midnight shows in some large cities, which helped the movie even more. This is because the film was released during the long Independence Day holiday, there were high expectations for the sequel, and there was dearth of exciting Bollywood films lately. This is something one could say is just the dawn of box office success story.
