The tornado obstructed a section of the highway near Hickory with fallen trees and power lines, according to the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation.
Tragically, another fatality occurred in Clayton County, Georgia, where a tree fell on a car during heavy rain on a state highway, as reported by Jonesboro officials.
On the same day, a tornado struck Cottonwood, Alabama, claiming the life of an 81-year-old woman, according to the Houston County Coroner. The National Weather Service issued warnings for incoming storms and tornadoes, cautioning residents in Florida, Carolina, and Georgia to stay vigilant against heavy rain, strong winds, and snow.
The ongoing storm has already caused destruction to roofs and trees in various locations, with its trajectory moving northeast.
