Lionel Messi scored his third consecutive international trophy when Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 in the Copa America 2024 final. The tournament almost went on a sorrowful ending for Messi, who had to be substituted off in the second half owing to an ankle injury. While Messi wept uncontrollably on the bench, his teammates were there to hand him the trophy—Lautaro Martinez scored with seconds left of extra time. That was Messi’s 45th career trophy, moving him past Dani Alves of Brazil as the most decorated footballer of all time—a huge World Record. By so doing, Messi has won four international titles for Argentina in a period of just only three years. In 2022, he won the FIFA World Cup and otherwise won two Copa Americas and a Finalissima from 2021 to 2024. He won a total of 39 titles at club level in his illustrious career, mostly with Barcelona.
In total, he has won 12 league titles: 10 with Barcelona, two with PSG; four Champions Leagues trophies, all with Barcelona; and 17 domestic cups—a total of 15 with Barcelona, one for PSG, and one for MLS side Inter Miami.
Apart from that, he has also won UEFA Super Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup, a total of three times each. On the international circuit, Messi has had wins for Argentina at the 2005 U-17 World Cup and at the 2008 Olympic Games.
So far in his career, Messi has netted 838 goals and provided 374 assists in 1068 games.
