Maldives Getaways: Travel agents noted a decline in Maldives vacation package inquiries and a substantial price drop despite multiple long weekends in January, as reported by TOI. Formerly ranging from Rs 55,000 to Rs 70,000, three-day packages from Hyderabad, covering airfare, accommodation, meals, and sightseeing, are now available for Rs 45,000 or less.
Luxurious five-star packages, once priced over Rs 2.5 lakh, have now dipped below Rs 2 lakh, with the possibility of further reductions. Current rates for one-way flight tickets from Hyderabad to Male range from Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000, a decrease from the previous average of Rs 20,000.
IndiGo reported no immediate cancellations or impact on forward sales, but it canceled direct Delhi-Male flights from January 17 due to aircraft grounding. The airline reassured no cancellations on other routes to Male.
Nagesh Pampati from Pampati Aeroworld Holidays noted a shift in demand to Lakshadweep, receiving no Maldives inquiries in the past three days. The shift follows derogatory remarks against India and PM Modi by suspended Maldivian ministers.
Abdul Majeed Fahim of the Travel Agents Federation stated no cancellations occurred yet due to advance bookings. Moez Meghani from Sky Brokerz observed an unusual trend as Maldives saw reduced queries during long weekends, contrary to its usual popularity as a ‘quick getaway’ during such periods.
