Salaries increased for employees.. Jail for employers
Some shopkeepers have been jailed for raising the wages of their employees. This strange incident took place in Myanmar. What actually happened..?
The people of Myanmar are suffering under the rule of the army. People are facing many difficulties due to strict Army laws. Some of the shop owners were sent to jail by the military government due to the recent wage hike. It is a crime to increase the wages of staff when inflation is rising.
So far, at least 10 shopkeepers across the country have been sentenced to three years in jail for the same reason. Moreover, their businesses were forced to close. Wage hikes are not illegal in Myanmar. But, at the time of inflation concerns, the army (Military Government) thinks that due to increasing the salaries, there will be unrest in the society. The same thing has been mentioned in the notices pasted in front of the shops. They are accused of disrupting peace and security.
It is known that the army overthrew the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021. Since then, the country has been under military rule and is facing a severe economic crisis. People are reeling with rising prices of essentials and other problems. At the same time, pro-democracy armed groups formed alliances and rebelled against the army. This created instability in the country.
