Following former President Donald Trump guilty verdict, his supporters have reacted with anger and violent threats. Calls for riots and even mass lynchings have emerged online.
On various right-wing social media platforms, reactions have been severe. Comments like “Take no prisoners” and “Just give them the rope” have surfaced, with one user ominously stating, “The time for talking has long gone. Let them swing outside the courthouse.”
Many posts used coded language to make threats. Phrases like “short drops” referred to hanging, while “short walks and long drops” with helicopter emojis alluded to “death flights,” a term for executions used by right-wing regimes in Chile and Argentina.
One post mentioned Judge Juan Merchan, saying, “Someone in New York with nothing to lose needs to take care of Merchan.” Another user declared, “Time to start capping some lefties.”
Some supporters called for drastic measures, suggesting that “one million men (armed)” should march to Washington to “hang everyone.” Others suggested “LEGALLY destroying the professional lives” of key figures in the trial, including Judge Merchan, prosecutor Matthew Colangelo, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Trump supporters expressed deep frustration and anger, believing the conviction showed corruption in the political and legal systems. One post bluntly stated, “That’s a lot of unnecessary words to say ‘try and hang’,” while another mentioned using camouflage gear, saying, “All the ghillie suits in America, and you want to exploit our flawed and corrupt justice system. F*** off.”
The comments have escalated tensions, with many mentioning their readiness to use weapons, like AR-15s, and highlighting the addresses of those involved in the trial.
These violent reactions show the deep divisions and heightened emotions surrounding the trial and its outcome, highlighting a troubling political climate.
