AP Elections 2024: The Andhra Pradesh polling is over, but the result is still generating confusion. Attacks and violence during the elections have had a long-lasting impact. Leaders implicated in these acts will face legal proceedings for many years. This has caused a great deal of stress in the state.
Now the emphasis moves to another key phase counting. The votes will be counted on the fourth of next month. This will select the victors of 175 Assembly seats and 25 Parliament seats, and it is likely to be a nerve-racking procedure.
The major cause of this tension is widespread betting and pressure on politicians and parties. Unlike in the past, when elections were viewed as a fair game, the stakes have risen significantly, producing tension among all parties engaged. 32 constituencies have been recognized as problematic, with an additional 20 being extremely problematic. The situation in these areas is unpredictable.
In places like Anantapur, Palnadu, and Chittoor, they couldn’t stop the violence during the elections. Actions were taken after the damage was done, but it was too late. The counting day is expected to be even more intense than the polling day. In 2019, there were serious clashes in the Allagadda Constituency on the counting day. This time, it might get worse.
The only solution seems to be the intervention of the police and party leaders. If the party heads take the initiative to calm down their activists and leaders, there might be a chance to control the violence. Otherwise, more trouble is certain.
