As the dust settles on the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) ticket distribution for the upcoming Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, dissent brews among some denied MLAs, posing a potential challenge for the party and its leader, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Pithapuram YSRCP MLA Pendem Dorababu, ousted in favor of Kakinada MP Vanga Geetha, strategically celebrates his birthday, flooding Pithapuram with grandiose displays of self-promotion. Remarkably absent are images of Jagan Mohan Reddy and YSR Congress party symbols, a deliberate move to embarrass the party and its president.
Dorababu’s birthday festivities include a massive gathering of supporters, complete with a hosted dinner. Speculation is rife that he may announce his departure from the party, leaning towards either the Telugu Desam Party or Jana Sena.
Simultaneously, YSRC MLA Parvatha Prasad, denied the ticket for Prathipadu constituency, initiates a public outreach campaign under the banner of “Praja Deevena.” Supplanted by former MLA Varupula Subba Rao, Prasad, despite meeting Jagan, receives no assurance, prompting his decision to spotlight the perceived injustice.
While talks circulate about a potential shift to the TDP, sources suggest Prasad anticipates a change of heart from Jagan if public response to his rallies is substantial, potentially resulting in the restoration of his ticket.
Former minister Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, sensing the futility of securing a party ticket despite repeated attempts to meet Jagan, expresses disappointment. He voices his intention to await a favorable response from Jagan, stating, “My future will be decided by Jagan and the god. Let me see what will happen,” adopting a philosophical stance.
The denied MLAs’ dissent introduces an element of internal discord within the YSR Congress Party, posing challenges for Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership as the elections loom closer. The unfolding developments will undoubtedly shape the party’s trajectory in the crucial political landscape of Andhra Pradesh.
