Until recently, there was speculation that Mudragada Padmanabham, a former minister and prominent Kapu leader from East Godavari, would join the YSR Congress party. YSRCP leaders even set January 2 as the expected date for his entry. Mudragada had been expressing support for YSRCP and its president, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, and had criticized Janasena Party chief Pawan Kalyan for baseless accusations against YSRCP MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy.
Initial reports suggested that Mudragada Padmanabham might contest the Kakinada Lok Sabha seat, with his son or daughter-in-law securing a YSRCP ticket for assembly seats in Prathipadu, Pithapuram, or Jaggampet. However, the YSRCP chose different candidates for these constituencies, leaving Mudragada in uncertainty.
Recent reports indicate that Jagan has finalized Chalamalasetti Sunil’s name for the Kakinada Lok Sabha seat, signaling that Mudragada and his family might not find a place in the YSRC. Faced with this, Mudragada Padmanabham is reportedly reconsidering his decision to join the YSRCP.
Taking advantage of the situation, Jana Sena leader Bolishetty Srinivas visited Mudragada’s residence, inviting him to join their party. Mudragada Padmanabham, during the meeting, informed the Jana Sena leader that he had no plans to join the YSRCP. He also had a telephonic talk with Pawan Kalyan, who is expected to visit Kirlampudi in the coming days to meet Mudragada.
In the midst of this, senior TDP leader Jyothula Nehru visited Mudragada’s residence, seeking his cooperation in consolidating Kapu ranks. Mudragada’s son Giribabu mentioned that the family might join either TDP or Jana Sena but ruled out YSRCP. He expressed intentions to contest elections but would decide the party after discussions with followers and well-wishers. The political future of Mudragada Padmanabham and his family remains uncertain amid shifting alliances.
