In an unexpected turn of events, YSR Congress Party legislators hailing from the Reddy community in Palnadu district are reportedly advocating for the continuation of the incumbent MP from Narasaraopet, Lavu Krishna Devarayalu, who belongs to the Kamma community.
Rumors circulating within the YSRCP inner circle suggest that the party’s president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, has decided against granting the party ticket to Krishna Devarayalu in the Narasaraopet parliamentary constituency. This decision is attributed to Jagan’s preference for fielding a candidate from the Backward Classes in that constituency.
Jagan purportedly urged Krishna Devarayalu to consider shifting to the Guntur Lok Sabha constituency. However, the MP declined the offer, anticipating unfavorable election outcomes in Guntur. Speculations even hint at Krishna Devarayalu contemplating a switch to the Telugu Desam Party.
In response to these developments, YSRCP MLA candidates from the Reddy community in Palnadu district—Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy from Macherla, Kasu Mahesh Reddy from Gurajala, and Gopireddy Srinivas Reddy from Narasaropet—have reportedly approached Jagan, urging him not to relocate Krishna Devarayalu from the Narasaraopet seat.
They emphasized to Jagan that the party’s prospects of winning in Narasaraopet are significantly higher if Krishna Devarayalu is nominated. They argued that the incumbent MP has made substantial contributions to the constituency and has built a strong rapport with the people over time.
The Reddy MLAs asserted that introducing a new candidate on short notice might pose challenges in gaining the trust of the constituency’s residents. Additionally, they highlighted Krishna Devarayalu’s financial stability and non-controversial image, contending that transferring him to Guntur or pressuring him to defect to the TDP would be counterproductive.
Following the Reddy MLAs’ plea, it is reported that Jagan has deferred the announcement of the candidate for the Narasaraopet seat. This unusual situation marks the first instance where Reddy leaders within the YSR Congress Party are advocating for a Kamma candidate. The outcome now hinges on whether Jagan will accede to their request, as per insider sources.
